The RACHP sector faces urgent threats from the illegal trade of refrigerants and uncertified work. These activities undermine climate policy, public safety, and fair competition—jeopardizing the EU’s transition to climate-friendly technologies.

In this position paper, AREA highlights how black-market refrigerants and unqualified technicians disrupt the market, create safety hazards, and slow down the adoption of low-carbon solutions. The paper calls for immediate action from EU institutions and member states, including:

  • Stronger enforcement and border controls
  • National registries for certified professionals
  • Public awareness campaigns
  • Industry collaboration to support compliance
